"Sad -Sad" is the form of dancing while offering a personal petition and prayer to Señor Santo Niño. This is liturgically celebrated every University week in University of San Agustin in western visayas,Iloilo during which devotees carry a portable Santo Niño image onto the street inside the campus as fiesta dancing celebration.
The University held this event as form of competition inside the campus. Every Department is required to participate by having there own unique and heart whelming dance as a form of offering and devotion to our dear Santo Niño.
This was one of the loudest and happiest event in the University because it is prepared by different department accompanied with musics like drums, trumpets, cymbals etc. and costumes to make the "sad-sad" more colorful and cheerful. There were a corresponding prices to the one who could get the attention of the judges and the audience. This was the reason why every department really did their best to put their full effort just to win and have a record.
Every participants of this event formed themselves a line and went on dancing while walking. they call it street dancing but this is also known as "sad- sad". This is a difficult way of dancing because it requires skills and talents as well as endurance to balance the performance to make it organize and systematic for a long period of time.
These days were more than just a "no class day", a break from the routine of everyday student life and most of all; these were days of full of learning, enjoyment, friendship and brotherhood worth celebrating. This event reminds us that even though we belong to different departments, we are all Agustinians living the teachings of Saint Agustin with one mind and one heart. Indeed, as a university the University of San Agustin found its inspiration on unity a midst diversity.
